A Dozen Ways To Pray For Your Kids

Praying for our children is one of the most powerful things we can do as parents. It doesn't have to be fancy... just a simple prayer will do. Years ago a mentor of mine gave me a list of twelve things to pray for my children... it had scribbles of notes all over it - obviously had been a tool she had used to pray for her own children (who were then grown). The dozen things on that paper were like gems to me. I don't know where she got the list... but, they are too valuable to not share with other parents looking for ways to pray for their children.

Here are twelve ways to pray for your child - it can be as simple as...

Father God, I pray...

1. That my child will know Christ Jesus as their Savior early in their life.
II Timothy 3:15
"how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."
Psalm 63:1
"O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water."

2. That they will be caught when guilty
Psalm 119:71
"It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees."

3. That they will have a hatred for sin
Psalm 97:10
"Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked."

4. That they will be protected from Satan in each area of their lives: Spiritual, Emotional, Mental and Physical
John 17:15
"My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one."

5. That they will have a responsible attitude in all their inter-personal relationships.
Daniel 6:3
"Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom."

6. That they will respect those in authority over them
Romans 13:1
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."

7. That they will desire the right kind of friends and be protected from the wrong kind.
Proverbs 1:10
"My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them."

8. That my child will be kept from the wrong mate and be saved for the right one.
II Corinthians 6:14-18
"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people. "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

9. That they, as well as those they marry, will be kept pure until marriage.
I Corinthians 6:18-20
"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

10. That they will learn to submist totally to God and actively resist Satan in all circumstances.
James 4:7
"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

11. That they will be single-hearted, willing to be sold out to Jesus Christ.
Romans 12:1-2
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."

12. That they will be hedged in so they cannot find their way to wrong people or wrong places and so that the wrong people cannot find their way to them.
Hosea 2:6
"Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way."
